I wasn't sure how long that we'd be able to hold out. He had a cough but no fever, no cold. Wouldn't you know it he came down with all of that stuff during the 4 hrs that he was at school. I always feel like the bad mom when he doesn't get sick on "my watch." No biggie. There's MLK day so we have lots of time to recuperate.

It was nice to spend the day just hanging out and cuddling. I always feel bad when the kids are sick. Partly because I hate having them feel bad but also because odds are that we have been kept up the night before. I think that I have watched more kids DVD's than I care to share with you.

UGH!

Clooney's the Man!

My beloved was so concerned that I had run into writer's block that he E-Mailed this to me from MSNBC:
January 10, 2005
Mr. O’Reilly,

In response to your lead story on January 6, where you attack the Sept. 11 telethon, it is incumbent upon me to help you get your facts straight.

First, to clarify, it was not the Red Cross but the United Way that sponsored that telethon... an easy mistake to make... if you're 3.

Second, contrary to what you claim, no one objected to you investigating where the funds were going, but we strenuously objected to you insinuating that it was a fraud (which is what you did) as we were still waiting for a list of names of the dead. 6,000 was the number when you broadcast your attack (some 3,000 was the real number), that is simply a fact... no spin. There's no question, sir, that you have become quite powerful. The panic that you started that week scared other charitable organizations into simply handing out money to anyone who walked into their office. I suppose the threat of a Senate investigation would scare most anybody. It was an interesting week though... you showed up on the Today Show to talk about the telethon, but when pressed by Matt Lauer, admitted that you would only talk about the scandal if they hawked your new book. Fact... no spin. You said your tactics weren’t about ratings, and that same week took out ads bragging about beating Larry King for the first time, all while Eliot Spitzer and Frank Thomas and Josh Gotbaum were weeding through the difficult task of who was dead and who was not.

I don't make as much money as you, Mr. O’Reilly (a fact that's easy to check), but I'm fascinated by your use of the word CELEBRITY as if you're not one... you put on make up, you do Leno, The Today Show, go on book tours, and do junkets, so let’s be clear... you are a well paid celebrity. Period. No spin. And, to quote you last week, "with power comes responsibility"... people canceled their pledges because YOU told them that the telethon was flawed... a lot of money that should have gone to a lot of needy families didn't, because you wanted a controversy... and controversy has made you a celebrity... remember, sir, that this is me you're talking to publicly. I was the one you called several times the day before the telethon to say that we “had to include ‘The Factor’” in the press interviews, and that it "wasn't fair to leave us out,
we’re a news program”. Fact... no spin. I think people should know that.

Now, here's the only important fact: the 9/11 telethon was an unqualified success from the beginning to the present and we make sure of it. (I say WE because I'm on the board of directors of the United Way).

Your report last Thursday was a preemptive strike... NOT to protect the families affected by the tsunami, but to create more controversy for your own personal gain. Because of it, fewer people will donate money to help truly traumatized victims; they'll be afraid that their money will do no good.

So all right, Mr. Journalist... come on in. I'm booking the talent for the Tsunami event... and you, Mr. O’Reilly, are now officially invited to be a presenter... (at this point, not one of the people I’ve invited to donate their time has said “No”)... this way, You can personally follow up on our fundraising... this is your chance to put your considerable money where your considerable mouth is... show up... help raise money... and if we're doing something wrong, point it out. I believe firmly in the check and balance system... you'll get nothing but a handshake and a “Thanks for helping out” from all of the rest of us “celebrities”.

So what do you say, Mr. O’Reilly... either you ante up and help out AND be that watch dog that you feel we clearly need... or you simply stand on the sidelines and cast stones, proving that your January 6 TV show was nothing more than a “box of lights and wires” designed to make you wealthy.

We do the show this Saturday, it’s across the street from where you shoot “The Factor”.

I'll need a quick response.

Your fan,

George Clooney
I like... no love Clooney. It's takes a really big guy that can attack the United Way. Bill O'Reilly needs to shut up and stick to the loofahs that he knows best!

Check Yourself Mark Burnett!

CBS and Mark Burnett are THISCLOSE to losing an Amazing Race fan. I watched the show last night. (We tape so the 7yo can watch) I realize that CBS might have the bright idea that Jonajackass might be pulling in viewers because they want to know what will he do next. I can't be the only one who thinks that this show is unwatchable because of him. I can't be the only one who is physically sick watching him abuse his wife and receive NO consequence for it. I think that these rich bastards have a responsibility to maybe step in and penalize/kick these two the hell off the show. I have seen this guy hit his wife on the show. You mean no one thought to yank him?!?!??!!!??!?! With all the talk of responsible media programming, this NEVER entered anyone's mind?

I'm disappointed that it has sunk to this level. By and large, it still is a good show. It's cool watching the different cultures and I think that the 7yo benefits from that. Even the Ugly American couple who showed how ignorant they were in Africa are tolerable because they just are stupid. This one jackass and his wife though bring a "Jerry Springer" quality to the show. I don't know if that was intentional. It does feel like CBS and Burnett are selling out.

God help us all if these two win the race..... If that happens, then the terrorists win....

Happy Yew Nears!

This was just how I felt after the party that was held in my neighborhood! I feel a lot better and I expect that I'll look cute once the warm weather comes.

The Christmas Loot

At the request of my beloved, I am going to discuss my "Christmas loot". Overall, I did pretty well. As I've said before, the kids are more important than what I get.

A Coat-Sweater from my mom and stepdad. I have been eyeing up my mom's for quite a while so she decided to put me out of my misery and get one for me. I got it early but that's okay because I have gotten tons of use from it.

An Ice-Cream maker from my boys. I think that this might have been a bit self-serving (get it? That's a joke) because even now my 7yo is aching to use it. I get to pick the first flavor. Chocolate-marshmallow... YUM!

REM's Around the Sun from my beloved. This may have been an obvious present because we have every REM CD that has ever been made. I asked him when we were going to buy this one. After a few listens I have to say that I like it. Not LOVE it like the older stuff. That subject is a whole 'nother topic.

A bracelet. It's very pretty. I seem to remember when we were dating that I received something similar to this. That one turned orange. This one won't. Maybe he is drawn to such types of things.

Running socks. Purely self-serving (but still a cool gift). He didn't want me to wear his precious running socks to the gym. They are very comfy and make my feet feel fine! (Sing to the tune of Bo-bo's)

A nomination charm. I love my nomination bracelet. I wish that he'd get some more. I always have to buy my own!

A snowman napkin holder. Our 2yo made this for us. Home Depot came to his school to do a craft project and this was the result. When I asked him what did they taught him that day he said, "Don't touch!" Sounds great to me!

A globe pen set from Santa's secret shop. The 7yo wanted me to take this to school and put it on my desk.

That's it. It just goes to show that I have a great family!

Resolutions? Maybe!

I try not to make New Year's resolutions. They are too hard to keep and I feel like a dork for not being able to keep them. That said this is what I will attempt to work on ASAP. (in no particular order)

1. I will keep going to the gym four days a week. I have never been able to do this before. I'm pretty proud of myself for sticking with it for 3 months in a row. (3 of those days are at 5 am, thank you very much!)

2. I will pursue only reciprocal relationships. Let me explain. It is exhausting trying to maintain relationships that are completely one-sided. It is all work and no reward.

3. I will try to be more patient in dealing with my children. I love my children unconditionally but I promise to be more patient. When they go through emotional stuff, I will be stronger.

4. By extension, I promise to do more to take care of me and my marriage. This is not to say that anything is wrong with either. It's been a long time since I have had a sincere date night with my beloved or had the kids sleep over someone's house. The last overnight visit was around a year and a half ago when they went to Granny and Pop Pop's house. I don't think that they have the stamina or desire for this anymore.

5. I can't really promise that I won't rant about the current administration. What is going on is wrong and I won't be silent.

6. I promise that my job will not overtake my life. I have made it clear that my family is number one and so far no one has really objected. This is so different than previous teaching gigs. I like holding the cards. It's nice to be appreciated.

Have a great New Year everyone!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://deega.blogspot.com/2004/12/resolutions-maybe.html' title='Resolutions? I hope that the "stuff" that my 7yo is going through will get worked out. I know that if we work hard with him like the way that I have planned, then he will. It's just never easy to see your child in any type of distress and know that you have absolutely no idea of how to comfort him. I hope that my 2yo is potty-trained in the New Year. As long as we offer up M&M's as a reward for "going" then we will. I am very lucky because through all of this craziness, my beloved and I are still going strong. We are managing to perfect the art of "Tag-Team Parenting" and still are as crazy about each other as ever.

I hope that we get out of Iraq soon. I don't think that will happen. I hope that someone gets that we were lied to about why we were in Iraq...but I don't think that will happen. I hope that Bush comes to his senses and gets rid of Rumsfeld.... but I don't think that will happen either! I hope that I can understand why the conservative agenda was passed in November because I still can't fathom that fact. I hope that the 51% soon comes to their senses and realizes that they have messed things up for all of us. I REALLY HOPE that will happen. I hope that we wake up and realize that OBL is still out there and all those guys are the real ones that we need to be worried about. Not some "trumped up" war!

In the Chicago Sun Times, Father Andrew Greeley (take that Bible-Thumping Bush lovers!) puts it best:
This time of the year we celebrate ''peace on Earth to men of good will.'' Americans must face the fact that they can no longer claim to be men and women of good will, not as long as they support an unnecessary, foolish, ill-conceived, badly executed and, finally, unwinnable war. If most people in other countries blame the war on Americans, we earned that blame in the November election -- not that there is any serious reason to believe that Sen. John Kerry would have had the courage to end the war. Perhaps if he had changed his mind, as he did about the war in Vietnam, and opposed the Iraqi war, he might have won. Too late now. Too late till 2010 -- or 2020.

Spoiled, Bratty Kids

Someone explain this to me:

Why do parents make such a big deal over every little milestone in their children's lives?

Case in point:
My 7yo recently made his first Reconciliation at church. For those who aren't in the Roman Catholic Church, it's when the kid first goes to Confession. There's a HUGE amount of preparation for such an event. The PARENTS have a whole book that has to be completed with the child at home. So on top of EVERYTHING else that the average kid has to do, we have to get them to complete a 50 page book in a month. I don't think that college was that hard! It would seem to me that this whole bit could be seriously condensed:

Lesson #1- Be nice to everyone. (If you are doing your job anyway, they should already know this)

Lesson #2- If you goof up, say your sorry (taking responsibility) and go to confession.

Done and Done! Why be redundant?!

Once you get to the actual ceremony, parents are dressed to the nines, along with the kid. There are formal pictures taken. Family upon family upon family is there. I will say that we went out to a BBQ joint per the 7yo. It was a good excuse not to cook.

I saw a news article that was about a KINDERGARTEN prom. How many possible graduations could one child have in their lifetime? What about the first birthday party with the pony rides. I won't even get into the whole stage kid phenomenon. (those guys are a bit weird) It seems to me that if every little moment in a child's life is celebrated, then nothing is special anymore. It's EXPECTED.

There's a difference. C'mon, admit it!

No Picture of Mental Health!

I plucked this little nugget from the CNN website:
Before Lisa Montgomery was arrested and charged with kidnapping resulting in death, she and her husband showed the abducted infant to people in their Kansas town, residents said Saturday.
I am completely horrified by this woman. As a mom, I feel sorry for the thought of the baby's dad having to later explain the incidents surrounding his daughter's birth. I don't know if I would even go there because how do you explain this to someone? Clearly, some screws are loose in Ms. Montgomery's head. Very sad for all involved and I hope that they throw the book at this broad. Why? She had a whole studio of underappreciated, over-stressed, and broke teachers. She gave out vacations, cool watches, BEDS, clothes, computers and MORE! (for obvious reasons)

Soup: Who was the last person who gave you money, and what was it for?

It was probably my beloved for something related to the boys.

Salad: If you were a Smurf, what would your name be?

Grouchiella

Main Course: Do you believe in astrology? To a certain extent, we control our own destiny.

Dessert: Have you seen any snow this year yet? What's the weather like today in your area?

Snow is supposed to be coming. I doubt it though. Toys R Us was crazy. (or to borrow a line from the kids, it was "off the chain") Tons of spoiled, bratty children everywhere. They were all screaming and demanding toys. The carts were full of toys of every kind. I don't know why parents would bring kids here at that time of year. I try to avoid it at all costs all throughout the year. My 7yo is currently being mesmerized by an (ugh) Ashlee Simpson JuiceBox commercial. He told me that he HAS to get that!

I haven't commented on politics for a while but this story was too much to ignore. I'm going to switch gears for a minute.

Did you guys hear that Rumsfeld was grilled by the troops in Iraq?! Good for them for giving him the "what for". Once again, I am completely mortified (but not really suprised) that not only do our troops have to go "dumpster diving" to make themselves safe that there will be NO CONSEQUECES for Rumsfeld who has once again dropped the ball. His response was right in line with this administration... completely arrogant.

Did someone need to read a billboard to realize that this guy is an idiot? These guys are seriously the ones who %51 of you voted for ( I sure as hell didn't!) and who will be making decisions for us. Great job!

Now, that being said, are we still "anti-American" for being outraged by this story? I think that we are more sincere than those who slap those "Support our Troops" magnets. If you stand for this and think that Bush/Rumsfeld is still doing a great job, then you aren't doing that much supporting.

To all the Bush-voters... Now, is THIS shortfall Bush's fault?! Just wondering what the boundaries are... I shudder to think of what the next 4 years have in store!

***end of my rant***

Friday's Feast 12/10/04

Appetizer: Make up a word and give us its definition.

Symblo- a Russian Egg Dish

Soup: What is currently your favorite song?

I love U2's song Vertigo and Moby f Gwen Stefani's Southside.

Salad: What's at the top of your Christmas wish list this year?

Kids, are you listening? Thanksgiving dinner smells remind me of the holidays when I was a kid.

Dessert: Who is someone on television that you feel probably shouldn't be, and why?

PARIS HILTON!!! I SHOULD have known that SOMEONE would get it. I wasn't counting on us both. The 7yo called it right away.... right after his little brother yakked gallons! We are both home today. I missed the holiday luncheon at work though. I can't think about food but am bummed that I missed what was supposed to be an easy day.

Friday's Feast 12/03/04

Appetizer: Tell about a toy you remember from your childhood.

Nobody remembers this one but I had a "Suntan Tuesday Taylor" way back in the day. It is something that everyone needs and should get, no matter what their income level is. It seems like those who are well off manage to get the best of both of these.

Salad: Approximately how many times per day do you think about your significant other?

Ummmmmmmmmmmmm.......... They are really sticking to it. I was suprised that Don and Mary Jean have really stuck to it. I expected them to give up after it took them forever to count/build a desk at IKEA. Don had that all important "shot" of adrenaline and found the clue in the haystack. It's impressive that everyone is counting them out and they are still there.

I like Gus and Hera too. Talk about worst to...third! They are the other underdogs that I am rooting for.

I felt bad for the sisters. Lena worked like crazy to get the clue. 7 hours surrounded by haybales is deserving of mad props! It must have been awful to be in third and have every team (grandparents included) pass you.

Could someone please trip Jonathon and Victoria? Wasn't someone temted to yield these guys? These two have their picture next to "Ugly Americans" in the dictionary. I am disappointed that CBS did not step in when Johnathon hit Victoria. It wasn't a huge punch but I would be concerned for that dingy's personal safety. My beloved made a disturbing prediction that these chuckleheads will make it to the final four. When Cookie tries to dress up as Santa to get the cookies from Elmo is classic.

Salad: If you had to paint the walls of your living room tomorrow, what color would you choose?

I don't know the exact name in Home Depot but it would be some kind of beige.

Main Course: Name something clever or practical you have thought of that should be invented, but hasn't yet.

I'm not that clever or practical.

Dessert: List 3 things you would like to receive as gifts this holiday season.

a completely paid for date night... an all night date night where we can sleep in the next AM.

some kind of jewelery.

clothes... I guess.

I Am Thankful For....

On Thanksgiving, I feel compelled to reflect on who and what I am thankful for. I am thankful for my beautiful family. They all make me so happy. I know that I am lucky to have such a wonderful husband who truly is my "partner in crime". I feel blessed to have two uniquely wonderful boys that can both drive me crazy and make me happy at the same time.

That being said, I would like to quote some words from one of my favorite songs of the season......

Turkey for me
Turkey for you
Let's eat the turkey
in my big brown shoe
Love to eat the turkey
At the table
I once saw a movie
With Betty Grable
Eat that turkey
All night long
Fifty million Elvis fans
Can't be wrong
Turkey turkey doo and
Turkey turkeydap
I eat that turkey Then I take a nap

***Adam Sandler***

Happy Thanksgiving!!

The Amazing Race 6

I have really never commented on TV shows before. I felt that I should this time.

The Amazing Race is a cool show. It is one of the few that my beloved, my 7yo and I can all watch and enjoy. It's cool to see what other parts of the world look like....

OK. The real reason? We have teams that we like to root for.

Last time, I went between Charla and Mirna and Chip and Kim. I liked Charla because more than anybody she was a "true" underdog. I loved that she used her little person status to get ahead. I found myself cheering her on when she was desperately trying to keep up with those teeny legs. I give her mad props for lasting as long as she did. I also liked Chip and Kim because no one gave them any credit for being competitors and they proved those turkeys wrong. My 7yo was rooting for the perky young blond and pretty twins, Kami and Karli. (His rooting was just on physical appearance only- UGH)

I did like to rip on Colin and Christie. They were just mean to everybody! He was not very respectful to Christie and that was just FINE with her. I also ripped on that hairy Brandon and Nicole. I especially wanted them to lose because they wouldn't shave their heads because of their career. You have the opportunity to win a million, fools! Shave it off! Shave it off! They quoted God and Jesus quite a bit and then plotted and schemed. I don't know that Jesus would approve... Both these couples called each other "BABY" quite a bit.

That theme has traveled into the next installment of the show. The new teams started in Chicago and ended in Iceland. A lot of the teams are still calling each other "BABY". Is this a theme?! Did they have to pass some sort of "Baby Test" in order to get on the show? I bet that there's a drinking game for the show. Take a drink every time someone says "baby".

Anyhoo, Don and Mary Jean are cool grandparents that have managed to stay in it. My beloved and I thought that we'd fall over when those two went Ice Climbing. Good for them. They have a great attitude.

Jonathan and Victoria are the Married Entrepreneurs. Jonathan is one big... well it rhymes with passhole. I know that Victoria has a brain in there somewhere and hopefully will not tolerate being verbally abused. Lori and Bolo are the married pro-wrestlers. They are interesting to watch because the guy shrivels (not that way!) when he argues with Lori.

Go Don and Mary Jean!! I hope that last long but I'm afraid to hope too much!

Friday's Feast - 11/19/04

Appetizer: What do you think is the perfect age to get married? To have a first child? To retire?

You can be in love whenever you want. My 7 year old thinks that he loves girls and I don't doubt that he believes it. Teenage married couples are too young. I think that you have to be adult to make a commitment like marriage. Other than that, anytime is perfect. I think that it is very cute when Senior Citizens get married. Good for them!

I don't know if there is a perfect age to have kids. I know that when we got married we didn't officially "settle down" until we had kids. I think that you have to be in a certain space in life. It is up to each person.....
However........
I do not understand why these late 50/early 60 women are having kids. I am 34 and exhausted almost on a daily basis. I am the fun mom who takes the kids to Sesame Place or to the park or to the pool. It is in my best interest to keep the kids occupied. I also enjoy having fun with my kids. I don't know think that I could be as energetic as I am if I was way older. Plus I don't want to go to my kids' graduation sporting a walker.

Retirement? I would retire NOW if I could!

Soup: If you could change occupations tomorrow, what would you want to do for a living?

I have always wanted to be a teacher, so I really don't know. I do know that I would like to continue helping others.

Salad: What does the color green make you think of?

It makes me feel peaceful. It also reminds me of the environment. (get it? Green?)

Main Course: What is something that has happened to you over the last year that you didn't expect?

Recently, I was offered a full-time job after staying home with my kids for 2 years. I have the option of continuing that or going back to tutoring.

Dessert: How old were you when you had your first kiss?

I was in the 8th grade when it happened. It was kind of awkward and strange. My first TRUE LOVE kiss came years later when I was 16. I kissed this guy who turned out to be my husband.

The Black Cloud Over Our House

I'm home today because our 2yo has the croup. (I think so, at this point) It is probably a good thing too because I was up alot with him so I really make no sense to anyone! Right now, he is cuddled up with a blanket and OJ watching "Calliou". (For those who have no kids, he is an annoying, high-pitched four year old with no hair!) I always feel bad when the kids are sick because nothing that I can do seems to make them feel better. The 2yo cried and cried when he learned that he wouldn't be going to school. So here I am... at the mercy of a sick and cranky two year old. That's okay because I am so tired that he would probably be the only one to understand me.

I saw on the news that Margaret Hassan was murdered in Iraq. That makes "perfect" sense. She lived in Iraq for 20 years and was a legal citizen. This makes no sense because she seemed like one of the few who really worked to make a difference. She was not affliated with any part of the Occupation. Her only interest was to help her fellow citizens. This puts new meaning to the phrase "No good deed never goes unpunished." Apparently, things are going according to schedule in the Bush Administration.

I'll sign off now because I am getting "paged."

My Christmas Wish List

I have compiled this letter at the request of Mark. (Those of you who read this know who I am talking about, anyway) It's kind of strange to do this because I really have no idea of what I want for Christmas. I think that every parents goal(at least the good ones) is to make their kids' Christmases memorable. So maybe you can get some ideas from my grand and extravagant list.

1. For a recount to the election. (WHAT?)
2. To be able to sleep, read and other stuff without our offspring interrupting.
3. For our kids (both of them) to sleep past 6am for at least a month.
4. For the 2yo to be potty-trained already.
5. To go to the Chocolate Festival and actually have it be entertaining.
6. To go on overnight trips and not have the "big kid" freak out about it.
7. chocolate
8. jewelery
9. an IPOD (so I can work out to something other than classic rock)
10. a trip to the Bahamas.

Now Mark, (others may participate as well) this is the BIG test... Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to figure out which parts of the list are fantasy and which are reality.

Good Luck!

This is the LAST word...for now...

I found this while looking at someone else's website. Very cool and I THINK that it'll be the last that I comment on this "God-Forsaken" election. Truth be told, I just wanted to see if this works. I found this on www.nummybearcentral.blogspot.com.
Very cool site. Check it out.

My fellow Americans, the people of this nation have spoken, and spoken with a clear voice. So I am here to offer my concession.

I concede that I overestimated the intelligence of the American people. Though the people disagree with the President on almost every issue, you saw fit to vote for him. I never saw that coming. That's really special. And I mean "special" in the sense that we use it to describe those kids who ride the short school bus and find ways to injure themselves while eating pudding with rubber spoons. That kind of special.

I concede that I misjudged the power of hate. That's pretty powerful stuff, and I didn't see it. So let me take a moment to congratulate the President's strategists: Putting the gay marriage amendments on the ballot in various swing states like Ohio... well, that was just genius. Genius. It got people, a certain kind of people, to the polls. The unprecedented number of folks who showed up and cited "moral values" as their biggest issue, those people changed history. The folks who consider same sex marriage a more important issue than war, or terrorism, or the economy... Who'd have thought the election would belong to them? Well, Karl Rove did. Gotta give it up to him for that. [Boos.] Now, now. Credit where it's due.

I concede that I put too much faith in America's youth. With 8 out of 10 of you opposing the President, with your friends and classmates dying daily in a war you disapprove of, with your future being mortgaged to pay for rich old peoples' tax breaks, you somehow managed to sit on your asses and watch the Cartoon Network while aging homophobic hillbillies carried the day. You voted with the exact same anemic percentage that you did in 2000. You suck. Seriously, y'do.

There are some who would say that I sound bitter, that now is the time for healing, to bring the nation together. Let me tell you a little story. Last night, I watched the returns come in with family and friends. As the night progressed, people began to talk half-seriously about secession, a red state / blue state split. The reasoning was this: We in blue states produce the vast majority of the wealth in this country and pay the most taxes, and you in the red states receive the majority of the money from those taxes while complaining about 'em. We in the blue states are the only ones who've been attacked by foreign terrorists, yet you in the red states are gung ho to fight a war in our name. We in the blue states produce the entertainment that you consume so greedily each day, while you in the red states show open disdain for us and our values. Blue state civilians are the actual victims and targets of the war on terror, while red state civilians are the ones standing behind us and yelling "Oh, yeah!? Bring it on!"

More than 40% of you Bush voters still believe that Saddam Hussein had something to do with 9/11. I'm impressed by that, truly I am. Your sons and daughters who might die in this war know it's not true, the people in the urban centers where Al Qaeda wants to attack know it's not true, but those of you who are at practically no risk believe this easy lie because you can. As part of my concession speech, let me say that I really envy that luxury. I concede that.

Healing? We, the people at risk from terrorists, the people who subsidize you, the people who speak in glowing and respectful terms about the heartland of America while that heartland insults and excoriates us... we wanted some healing. We spoke loud and clear. And you refused to give it to us, largely because of your high moral values. You knew better: America doesn't need its allies, doesn't need to share the burden, doesn't need to unite the world, doesn't need to provide for its future. Hell no. Not when it's got a human shield of pointy-headed, atheistic, unconfrontational breadwinners who are willing to pay the bills and play nice in the vain hope of winning a vote that we can never have. Because we're "morally inferior," I suppose, we are supposed to respect your values while you insult ours. And the big joke here is that for 20 years, we've done just that.

It's not a "ha-ha" funny joke, I realize, but it's a joke all the same.

And I make this pledge to you today: Next time, there will be no pandering. We will run with all the open and joking contempt for our opponents that the President demonstrated towards the cradle of liberty, the Ivy League intellectuals, the "media elite," and the "white-wine sippers." We will not pretend that the simple folk of America know just as much as the people who devote their lives to serving and studying the nation and the world. They don't.

So that's why we're asking for your vote in 2008, America. I'm talking to you, you ignorant, slack-jawed yokels, you bible-thumping, inbred drones, you redneck, racist, chest-thumping, perennially duped grade-school grads. We know better, and I truly believe that we can help your smug, sorry asses. And may God, if he does in fact exist, bless each and every one of you.

By comedian Mark Fedler

But that is it.... for now...

Theatre Thursday 11/11/04

Today is Veterans Day. With that in mind, this weeks questions are all about movies involving the subject of war.

1) Which war movie is your favorite? (Nothing about war could be considered a 'favorite', but ya get my meaning.)

I "liked" Schindler's List, Life is Beautiful and Forest Gump. ( I actually liked this one...not so much for the war scenes)

2) What movie about war do you consider to be 'unwatchable', poorly done, or of poor taste?

Any movie with the Governator or Sylvester Stallone.

3) Which actor/actress gave the best performance as a soldier? What movie?

Tom Hanks in "Forest Gump".

BONUS) If there was a movie to be made about the current war in Iraq, who would you most like to see as the leading man/woman?

I don't think that a movie about the war in Iraq would be great thing to see at this point so I have no clue.

Post Election "Sunshine"

I think that I'm going to have to stop being a "news junkie". I have been "obsessed" with the election for months. I have become an avid fan of the Countdown with Keith Olberman. I read the Opinion page at breakfast every morning. I'm going to have to stop all of this so I can settle down. My beloved begs me not to get myself so worked up. I still can't get over how stupid we are. I have read headlines in other countries and if anyone is reading this from outside the US, I have just one thing to say. Not everyone voted for that blockhead (apologies to Charles Schulz), I mean Bush. I just hope that we all are not expected to hate gays and other minority groups. There.... I'm done....for now....(cleansing breath)

Anyhoo, I took my 7yo and his friend to see the Incredibles. Great movie! Disney screwed up bad when they split with Pixar. The animation is ...well, incredible! Pixar has 2 more movies due out and they look just as good.

We worked on his CCD book. The RC Church has an interesting concept when it comes to the sacrament of Reconciliation: The parents work on a whole separate book with the kids. So, on top of work, homework, and all the other stuff that is in the typical families life, this is at the top of the list. The CCD teachers are doing.....what?! That seems to be the mystery! (the fact that the name of his book is "Making Things Right" is also an interesting title coming from the church. Practice what you preach maybe?! That's a whole nother entry)

The "going back to work after a long rest" (as much as one can with kids) is going okay too. I'm very lucky that I have the option to leave in 2 months. I forgot that teaching is basically a thankless job. Being a Special Ed. teacher is a whole lower level of obnoxiousness. The kids aren't bad. The fact that the No Child Left Behind deal holds schools to such accountability stinks. Teachers are required to do so much more than teach. Where is the accountability for the parents?!

What-EVER !!

I'm so angry now that I can hardly speak.

I did not want more of this but since those who don't read a newspaper and believe everything that Bush has told them has THRUST this upon liberals like myself, I guess that I'll have to learn to live with it.

The mere fact that this was a close race blows my mind! It really shouldn't have been. I do think that Howard Dean really could have had this race fired up! If you were to actually look around and see the stuff that is going on, you would run the opposite direction. HOW many times must it be said that Iraq and 9/11 have nothing to do with each other?! HOW many explanations of the cause of this war do we have to have before people actually start to catch on that Bush has lied to us?! The war has been proven to be a miserable mistake and Bush will not take responsibility for this. Not only that, he has the nerve to chide or question those who question him. This is still America, right?! Just checking....

I doubt that the families of 9/11 who put together the 9/11 commission (the one that Bush tried to block) are thrilled that he got in. I doubt that all the people that were hurt, kidnapped and killed because of our actions are thrilled that Bush got in. The reason that was given that Bush won is because of his religious "morals and values". I have to believe that God would have a problem with the crap that this guy has pulled. God never said anything about giving tax cuts to the wealthy, screwing up the environment, sending innocent soldiers to a war started for "murky" reasons, deciding who makes a marriage, and being arrogant and self-serving.

I shudder to think of what will happen in a GOP controlled government. I think that we will be much more divided than ever. Someone seriously asked on a news show how long it would be before Roe v. Wade was overturned. I wonder how many voted for Bush just because he was "pro-life". (whatever that means to him) That along with other issues is too frightening to think about.

Congrats to the big corporations, "overly-religious", straight, rich, white, citizens of this great land. I just hope that the next four years go by quickly.

My nerves are shot!

Well, at 6:30am, we took a "lovely" family drive to our local voting booth. There were a suprising amount of people there. My 7yo is VERY into this election. (See: My guys really do have an opinion) He wouldn't go trick-or-treating at the houses with the Bush-Cheney signs on the lawn. (***Sniff***) I'm so proud. He "voted" with my husband and pulled the levers according to what I pulled in mine. I see nothing wrong with this because on this Election Eve, my spouse and I think as one. (at least in politics)

I have been drumming into my students' heads that it's important to vote and this is without a doubt the most important election that I can ever remember. The guys were very well versed in the issues and we had quite a spirited conversation. One of my co-workers said that they were voting for Bush because of his Christian values. (***sigh***)Whatever... I hope that this goes for Kerry.

I can't wait. My nerves are shot. Halloween. With that in mind...

1) What's your favorite scary movie?

Not really scary but I liked the one with Alanis Morissette as God. What a minute...THAT IS SCARY!!!!!!!!!!!

2) Are you more into the lame scary movies that make you laugh, or the straight up - scare the bejesus out of you - scary movies?

Don't really like scary SCARY movies.

3) Scary movies - best viewed alone? Or with a crowd?

In college, my friends went to go see Silence of the Lambs. I stayed home that night and I am glad that I did. One of my friends was so scared that she was up for 3 days straight!

BONUS) You've parked your behind on the couch for a marathon of scary movies. What 5 scary movies are on your list?

The only scary ones that come to mind have Jim Carey in them. I'm sorry.... I'm really no fun with this one. Teaching is very similar to being a policeman, I suppose. You have to watch out for note-passing, drug use, disrespectful behavior AND at the same time, teach them. Very hard to do when every student is on a different level and in a different book. (What there is of them)

No Child Left Behind?! These kids pretty much have all been left behind!

Friday's Feast 10/22/04

Appetizer: Name 3 things that you are wearing today.

Jeans, a T-shirt and sneakers. ( I'm THAT exciting!)

Soup: Who was the last person you hugged?

It was either my beloved or one of my boys.

Salad: What do you like to order from your favorite fast food place?

I saw "Super Size" me so now Mc Donald's in the movie theater and now Mc Donald's is out. Thank God my 2yo won't each much so Happy Meals are out. What he doesn't know won't hurt him.

We don't really order fast food a lot. I ordered Chicken pizza from Papa John's and I thought that was good. I'm glad that no one made a documentary about those guys.

Main Course: What time of day do you usually feel most energized?

In the morning. I run around so much that it's not until the afternoon or evening or whenever I stop that I feel tired and YUCK.

Dessert: Using the letters in your first name, write a sentence. (Example: Sweet unusual spaniels are nice.)

Dogs eat eggs.

Theater Thursday 10/21/04

1) Which fictional movie president would you most like to see sitting in the White House?

I'd like to see Martin Sheen. I don't really watch the "West Wing" but he seems dedicated, compassionate and LIBERAL! (I still don't understand why that is a bad word.)

2) Do you think the movies accurately portray the circumstances surrounding the life of the US President?

I'm not really sure. TV shows are always riddled with drama so wouldn't that hold true here?! On the other hand, presidents are always faced with big decisions.... (except for W., others make them for him) I know that we don't have aliens to deal with like the President did in Independence Day. ;)

3) A number of TV shows recently have featured the POTUS as a main character (The West Wing, 24). Would you accept any of them as the real US President?

Only if they were liberal in their views and actually had experience holding office. I don't know what California was thinking about when they elected Arnold. Don't get mad California... I wouldn't have gone with Gary Coleman or that porn star either. I just think that they have no experience. It's a pretty big job to go into as a "rookie".

BONUS) What actor (or actress!) would you like to get the chance to play a US President on screen?

OY! I don't know but I'd have to go with a female. It would be nice to see how the first female president played out on the big screen.

Nickelodeon Kids Pick Kerry!

I read in the newspaper that the Nick had a poll where kids could choose the President. They overwhelmingly picked my main man, Kerry. (57% to 43%) 400,000 kids voted. Apparently, they have never been wrong since it's 1988 beginnings. Linda Ellerbee had no scientific explanation but said that kids are voting for who their parents want. I only hope this is true! I can safely say that this holds true in our house!

Hey, good things are happening.... the Bosox win,( I love it when the underdog wins!) maybe Kerry is next!

Update: My Career Options

On Friday I went on a Disney On Ice field trip with my 7yo. Interesting.... tons of kids and crazy, over-the-top souvenirs. I mean, there is NO way that I will ever pay 8 dollars for a snowcone in a plastic cup. It seems strange to me that a company that fronts as being "family friendly" would gouge families. But that's another entry.

Anyhoo, I got the job. It is so funny that I had stipulations and that they agreed to both of them. I didn't want it to be permanent and I wanted to be home before my son got home from school. I don't mind putting the 2yo in daycare if it is temporary. It might sound ridiculous to obsess this way. I know that I am lucky that I have these options. I just want to be a good mom and be a good teacher! (the teacher part comes last.) I know that teachers are stretched and blamed for everything under the sun. I am hesitant to let this take over my life.

Does this make sense?!

Friday's Feast - 10/15/04

Appetizer: What is your favorite beverage?

Hot Chocolate w/ LOTS of marshmallows!

Soup: Name 3 things that are on your computer desk at home or work.

1. A Fairly Oddparents fuzzy picture.
2. A letter to my 7 yo from Gov. Mc Greevey about the importance of recycling. (this was before the "scandal")
3. A million Snapple caps that were saved in the hopes of winning the "Snaffle". I kept plugging the numbers into the computer. I'm real close to quitting because I can't get #307 and claim my karaoke machine!

Salad: On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being highest), how honest do you think you are?

I would say an 8. I don't like confrontation and I don't like to hurt people's feelings. If I found some money. I would find a way to turn it in. I occasionally slip up every once in a while. I'm human, people!

Main Course: If you could change the name of one city in the world, what would you rename it and why?

My beloved would change Bismark to Bismarkie. (BOOOOOOOOO!) I would change Philadelphia to Philly because everyone calls it that anyway.

Dessert: What stresses you out? What calms you down?

Being unable to take care of problems right away. Being with my family when everyone is not fighting or being loud (obnoxious loud) calms me down. Those times are usually at night or on the weekend!

Theater Thursday 10/14/04

1) Do you go to the movies alone or with friends/family? Do you know exactly what movie you're going to see before you get there, or do you stand for 30 minutes outside the box office trying to decide between Pauly Shore and Meryl Streep?

I go with friends and family. I have to have a need to see a movie. If I am going to plunk down hard earned $$, then it better be good. I'll have NONE of the "Dude, Where's My Car" genre. I haven't been yearning to see a movie lately. I did want to see Fahrenheit 9/11 but heard that it was gruesome at times. ( a little afraid) I am also afraid that I'll go and elevate my BP because I am not a "Bush Lover." I did take the kids to see "Shark Tale". As far as kids movies go, I have seen better. Ice Age, Monsters Inc., and Finding Nemo spring to mind.

2) When you go to the movies, do you usually buy:
a) Popcorn? What do you put on it?
b) Cokes? What's your favorite?
c) Candy? What gets stuck most in your teeth?
d) Other (hot dog, nachos, sushi)?

I usually am a "eat the popcorn during the Coming Attractions" type of girl.

3) Do you like it load and raucous in the theatre, or do you immediately stuff crying babies in the nearest waste can? Do you talk back to the screen and interact with the movie, or do you sink way down in your seat and just experience it?

I get so ANNOYED when you go to an "big people" film (if I said "Adult Film", that takes on a completely different connotation) and ADULTS are talking and chewing loudly or talking on the cell phones. I like the quiet.

BONUS) What's your favorite, most memorable movie-going experience? What experience almost (or maybe did) make you vow never to darken the door of a cineplex again?

When I was dating my beloved, I had to endure "Hairspray". If he had to answer, he'd say that was nothing compared to when I made him go see "Top Gun." (Tom Cruise .... c'mon!) I remember watching "Schindler's List" and feel like leaving because every time the Ralph Fienes character came on, he'd be blowing something or someone up.

The Thursday Threesome 10/14/04

Onesome: Kitchen- What's your favorite room in your place? Do you migrate towards the kitchen, or prefer to cozy up in the living room?

I love my bedroom. I love to cuddle with my beloved and read or watch TV. The house is so quiet after the kids go to bed. Before we had kids, we used to read the paper, watch TV and eat breakfast in bed. The bedroom might very well be my favorite room because I love to sleep.

Twosome: Gadget- What's your favorite gadget type item and why?

My smoothie maker. Somehow, I left with a full-time teaching offer. How does that happen?! It can be temporary if I want it to. I think that I do.

The offer is EXTREMELY flattering! I also realized that I am EXTREMELY lucky to have the options that I do. Not every mom does and would love the opportunity to stay home with the kids. I also know that my beloved and I worked very hard to get to the point that we felt strong enough for me to stay home. Teaching is by and large a thankless profession that sucked the lifeblood from me. I was a burned out teacher that didn't feel like a good enough mom. I didn't like that others were spending more time with my kids than I was. To top it off, I was spending more time with kids that felt like it was appropriate to curse me out. THAT is who I was spending my time with.

So... here I am and waiting to start a job that hopefully won't stress me out. I think that it is nice to have some control.

My Guys Really Do Have an Opinion !!

<img border='0' style='border:2px solid #666666; margin:2px' alt="click to enlarge"src='http://photos1.blogger.com/img/69/1477/400/2004_1004_0035a.jpg'>

My kids showing off their newest t-shirts. It was political in nature but not overpowering. There wasn't a lot of talk but tons of great music.

There were not too many protestors. A lot of people did seem mad at Bruce (Brooce!) for starting this thing. I read some interviews that he did prior to this and I respect the guy for having an opinion.

A lot of guys were tailgating. Now, I have never had much experience with this. I think that's because we never go to anything this cool. I do admit that I was a bit annoyed because they were taking up tons of all-important spaces. My beloved wondered if they had to pay for the extra spaces. That was okay. Rock on!

The opening act was Bright Eyes and they were introduced by Bruce and Michael Stipe. That was awesome for me so I can imagine that it must have been mind-blowing for them. The guy was okay, I guess. He seemed mad at everyone. Maybe that was the point.

After that REM was introduced by Bruce. I loved every song that they did. I have seen them every time that they have been in the area and ALWAYS have a great time. I did wish they played more songs that were appropriate for the evening. (Ignoreland and Orange Crush springs to mind.) Anyhoo, at the end of their set they played Man on the Moon and BRUCE (Brooce!) came out and sang with them. That was awesome!!

Then Bruce and the E Street band was introduced by Michael Stipe. Now, I am not a huge fan of his. I will say that the guy can put on quite a show. Very entertaining when he "saved" a guy in a bow-tie. We had to say "Halliburton" 3 times and he (bow-tie guy) was then healed. John Fogerty played a bunch of songs and obviously had a great time doing it. At the end REM and Bright Eyes sang "What's so funny about Peace, Love and Understanding?" They also sang "People Have the Power". It made me feel motivated but I'm already registered to vote and you can bet the farm that I will vote for Kerry. I hope that it served it's purpose with the "swing voters."

I am the Luckiest Girl in the World !!

I have to start off with a quick review of the debates last night. I think that Bush looked like a deer caught in the headlights. When confronted with all the mistakes that he has made, Bush looked like he wanted to reach across the podium and knock Kerry out! But at the same time, he was as arrogant as ever!

A neat trick by Bush though was when he mentioned that he met with the family of a soldier of the Iraq war who was killed. He said that he "teared up and prayed" with her. I am not shocked at all that he used a family (by name, mind you) to exploit all the crap that has gone on. I am not even suprised that he used religion to show how bad he feels that this family now has no Dad. (He does need to explain if this war is what "Jesus would do.") I would think that defeating Bush in these debates would be relatively easy because he has made a ton of colossal errors. He seems like "easy pickins" to me.

Every time that REM has come around, we have always gone to say "hi" to the guys. When the MoveOn concert was announced, my beloved and I tried to get tickets. No luck. Then one of our friends came thru with tickets at the last minute. So our streak continues. I think that it's going to be a great concert. Bruce for my beloved and REM for me! WOO HOO!!

What the Heck is Going On ?!

I hope that John Kerry wipes the mat with Dubba tomorrow night. After watching the news and reading the paper, I have a tough time hearing how people feel safer with Bush. He has done NOTHING for us but piss off many different kinds of cultures. I don't feel any safer and the fact that he uses 9/11 to illustrate just how great he is shows me that the guy is living in some kind of fantasy land! He talks about the "war on terror" like it is all about Iraq. Like somehow Iraq has anything to do with OBL. He talks as if he is doing us this BIG favor when this war is completely self-serving! I doubt that the families of the troops who dies feel like this war was for the right reasons and I doubt that the families of those who were held hostage feel that either. I can only surmise, friends, that there are those who really are living in that fantasy world with W. We impeached Clinton for far less than what Bush has lied about. I want to know where are the same calls for impeachment now?!

Dr. Phil is having the Bush's on his show. Maybe he can talk some sense into them! More likely, he will be kissing their butt. If that is the case, then Dr. Phil lives in that fantasy land too!

Michael Moore Lecture

Okay, last night Michael Moore spoke at Rutgers Camden. First he had us waiting for 45 minutes. Did he not realize that we were paying a sitter?!

I liked how he started off: He read from the very same book that Bush read on 9/11. Very strange book. I thought that it was a joke at first. He had a lot of Bush rhetoric. It got a little "Al Sharpton" at times. But like my beloved said: "You were preaching to the choir, Brother Moore." I did like how he read E-Mails from the troops in Iraq. In the media, all the troops are "gung-ho". We aren't shown differing points of view. These guys are not running from fighting. They don't want to be part of a war that is morally, logically wrong! That doesn't make them weak! The coolest part was that he gave away "college-type" groceries for registering.

Time is Standing Still

I swear, I have been a parent for 7 years. By now, I should know the signs!

When my 2 year old says that he doesn't want to eat, doesn't want to play, doesn't want to do anything that is considered "normal" for him, that usually means something is wrong. So when he casually yakked all over the kitchen table this morning, I should not have been suprised. I was anyway! He also threw up in the 7yo room like it was an everyday occurance. It wasn't for the big brother. So we are home today and it is like time isn't moving. UGH! I like doing things with him. Well, bright side: This gives me an opportunity to write. My beloved can't understand why I don't do this more.... Hmmmm.....

Anyhoo, we are going to a Michael Moore lecture at the Tweeter Center. I'd like to hear what the guy has to say! Hopefully, the 2yo will "cooperate" and not throw up anymore! Hmmm....what choice would that be?! He might as well told me that the color thing changed again and I need to go raid Home Depot for tarp and duct tape! Why does the GOP feel that they are doing such a great job on the war on terror?! (That's a rhetorical question, Bush-voters!) From where I sit, I'm not seeing it. I see a ton of mistakes that make us look like idiots. (Example: Abu-Graib. That in and of itself is a huge one) It seems to me that this is just to get people riled up and worked up.

Why do we have to be vigilant?! Maybe some dude is taking a picture of a building because it looks cool. How am I supposed to know the difference?! I can't wait until November comes. I should explain that I am the mom who looks up reviews of movies that my kid wants to see to make sure that they are appropriate. There should be no excessive violence. I don't let toy guns or weapons come into the house either. I'm pretty consistent on that.

Anyhoo, I don't understand why toy guys (This includes you too, Ronald Mc Donald!)market toys that linked to movies that are not intended for kids. (Spidey, The Hulk, even those weird Dr. Suess movies) Try explaining successfully to your kid why they can't go see How the Grinch Stole Christmas. If you don't research this stuff and go into a movie theatre cold, your small child could have nightmares for months to come. I have mixed feelings about it. I love having the kids here but I am forever the "entertainment committee." My 7yo is starting SECOND grade! To add insult to injury, my 2 yo has "the nerve" to start Nursery School. I hope to start tutoring soon.

Aw Man...

I am really not looking foward to the GOP convention. When it was in Philly, you couldn't walk two feet without running into a WASPy looking guy. I do have a question to pose: Why is having protestors a bad thing for Kerry? Someone on a tak show actually said that " If the protestors can't behave, that might spell trouble for Kerry." Can no one actually have an opposing point of view?

Those guys were here in Philly and I was actually glad to see that they might have made the GOP feel a little uncomfortable. Now, the world is totally different. Why can't people diagree with this President that has made such a mess of things? Why is that un-patriotic? To have this guy have a convention that runs smoothly does not seem appropriate.

We impeached Clinton just because he had an affair. The guy wasn't a great guy but I feel that he did a way better job and was better for the country. Bush started a whole war on lies. Next time we come with my beloved on a buisness trip, it will have to be to Florida.

My " Mooched" Vacation

I am on my way to sunny Virginia tomorrow. The boys and I are tagging along for a few days of sun and fun by the pool. Too bad that my beloved is going to be bored in training. I'm actually looking forward to going. I didn't think that I would be. The last time I mooched a vacation to this God-forsaken place, I was BORED STIFF in a hotel room for a whole day.

I'm looking forward to September a bit. I like having fun with the kids but I'd be very happy to "dig in" with someone's "difficult child.

I have been a real "political junkie" of late. Here in the great state of NJ, there are all sorts of political scandals. I voted for Mc Greevey but wasn't crazy with his "performance". I don't care if he's gay, straight or purple. I do feel bad for his family! At the press conference, they zoomed RIGHTIN on Jim's dad. He was crying. Leave the poor man alone! Where does this leave the very supportive wife? This is a rhetorical question..... I don't need to know but I suspect that we will all find out the skinny.

I don't want a Republican gov. I sure as heck don't want one of their presidents either! I can't wait until the annoying GOP convention is OVER!

Do you see what I'm talking about?!

Why this title?!

Some might wonder, why the crazy title? Quite simply, I have TWO boys, THREE if you count my husband. I am a special ed teacher too. 'Nuff said? I love them dearly but being the lone female in a house full of testosterone can be tough. My seven year old got a toy that the single object was to squeeze the "guts" out of it. It was that nasty gack stuff. I was desperately trying not to "gack" all over the floor! I take the kids to the pool and try to prevent my 2 year old from taking a flying leap off the side of the 2-foot deep pool. Now, maybe girls are better, maybe not. You can weigh in on this later. So inevitably, at the end of the day, I have a strong, mega-sized headache.

People, I donate my white blood cells, not only to save lives but because it guarantees me 2 hours of peace and quiet! Hello?!

Get it?!
